In Columbus, Ohio, another experienced defensive back from Ohio State is making a move to join the program of their former defensive coordinator.
Cam Martinez, a fourth-year safety, revealed his commitment to Boston College on Saturday. This decision follows cornerback Ryan Turner’s commitment to Jeff Hafley’s team on December 15.
Hafley previously served as the co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach during Ryan Day’s initial season as head coach. He later departed to lead Boston College, achieving six wins in three of four seasons. The Eagles are set to play SMU in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl this Thursday.
Martinez was among the first OSU players to declare his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal on November 30. He contributed with two tackles in three games as a backup safety this season. Known for his versatility, he took on various roles throughout his career, prominently serving as the sixth defensive back in dime packages this season.
Additionally, Martinez expressed openness to playing on the offensive side for his new team. Originally from Muskegon, Michigan, he was a four-star prospect ranked at No. 323 overall in the 2020 class as per the 247 Sports composite. His high school career showcased his prowess as a run-first quarterback, amassing 2,214 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns, while also throwing for 1,258 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He marks the 10th former Buckeye among the 14 scholarship players entering the transfer portal this cycle to announce their new destination.
