As the Oklahoma Sooners usher in a new quarterback era, they’ve encountered the departure of two of their top three passers from the depth chart who have entered the transfer portal.
Reported by Pete Nakos of On3, Davis Beville has decided to enter the transfer portal, following former starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who has already found a new team with the Oregon Ducks. Beville now aims to showcase his skills elsewhere in the upcoming 2024 season.
Beville had a single start with the Sooners, notably in the 2022 Red River Rivalry game, which ended in a memorable 49-0 loss. During his tenure at Oklahoma, his passing completion stood at a mere 50%, yielding 102 yards and an interception. Before his time with the Sooners, across two years at Pitt, Beville completed 59.7% of his passes, amassing 339 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
The anticipated quarterback transition points towards Jackson Arnold taking over in 2024, accompanied by a surge of talent in Michael Hawkins and Brendan Zurbrugg. This suggests the Sooners retain a promising quarterback group for new offensive coordinator Seth Littrell to develop.
While the roster boasts General Booty, the Sooners might consider adding an experienced quarterback to supplement the squad, potentially someone like Casey Thompson, whose name has been suggested as a possible fit in Norman.
