The Oklahoma Sooners have kicked off the 2025 recruiting cycle on a strong note, securing commitments from nine players for the class. While much focus has been on offensive prospects, the Sooners have already gained commitments from defensive talents such as Ka’Mori Moore and Alexander Shieldknight on the defensive line, along with Marcus James, an athlete projected to play outside linebacker.
Oklahoma is now making strides to add another defensive standout to their roster in the form of four-star cornerback Cobey Sellers. Regarded as a top 150 player in the 2025 recruiting class by 247Sports and On3, Sellers consistently ranks within the top 30 players at his position across various platforms.
Standing at an impressive 6 feet and weighing 170 pounds, Sellers possesses notable size and plays accordingly. He is recognized for his adept skills as a sticky-man corner, actively contesting catches and contributing to run support. With versatility in both man and zone coverages, Sellers displays athleticism that translates into making impactful plays on the ball in the air.
In addition to his role as a cornerback, Sellers showcased his versatility by returning punts for Shadow Creek. During his senior season, he even took on the quarterback position.
As the 2025 recruiting class gains prominence, Sellers emerges as a crucial player to watch. Jay Valai, the cornerbacks coach, has been successful in building a strong depth chart, and adding Sellers would be another valuable acquisition.
