West Ham eliminated from the FA Cup, Newport to face Manchester United in the next round.
Bristol City eliminated West Ham from the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday, setting up a thrilling fourth-round clash for Newport County against Manchester United. Tommy Conway scored the lone goal at Ashton Gate in less than three minutes, prolonging West Ham’s 44-year wait to lift the FA Cup. Conway, who also secured a replay goal at the London Stadium, capitalized on a short back pass from Konstantinos Mavropanos, rounding Lukasz Fabianski to slot into an unguarded net.
Expressing his excitement, Conway said, “I’ve been coming here since I was seven, and to get the winner is unbelievable. It’s the best (crowd) I’ve seen in a while, and to send them home happy is unbelievable.”
David Moyes’ team felt the absence of the injured Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta, along with Mohammed Kudus, who is away representing Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations. West Ham played almost the entire second half with a numerical disadvantage after Said Benrahma was sent off for kicking out at Joe Williams in response to a late challenge on him.
