Caleb Downs set to discuss potential transfer to Ohio State after departing from Alabama and entering the transfer portal.
The Ohio State football team is enjoying a successful offseason, marked by key players returning and notable recruiting achievements. The positive momentum may continue as reports indicate that members of the coaching staff traveled to Georgia to meet with Alabama defensive back Caleb Downs, who recently entered the transfer portal after Nick Saban’s retirement.
While convincing Downs to choose Ohio State won’t be an easy task, given his initial recruitment that involved Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia, the Buckeyes are determined to make a compelling case. Georgia, being closer to his home and having former Alabama defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson on staff, is considered a strong contender in his recruitment, according to reports.
Ohio State, however, has a strong pitch to make. Despite a close road loss to Michigan last season, the Buckeyes returned key contributors who deferred their NFL dreams for another season in Columbus. The roster includes notable players such as TreVeyon Henderson, Emeka Egbuka, Donovan Jackson, Jack Sawyer, JT Tuimoloau, Tyleik Williams, Ty Hamilton, Cody Simon, Denzel Burke, Jordan Hancock, and Lathan Ransom. Additionally, the team added star Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins through a transfer, enhancing their championship aspirations in what is perceived as a crucial season for head coach Ryan Day.
