Daniel Kanu, the striker for Charlton Athletic, has inked a contract extension that stretches until the summer of 2027. The 19-year-old’s previous contract was set to conclude at the end of June. Kanu, hailing from Lambeth, earned his maiden international cap for Sierra Leone during a World Cup qualifier against Egypt in November.
Expressing his gratitude, Kanu remarked, “I signed my first professional contract two years ago – around this time actually – and I’m just grateful to the academy and everyone else that’s been part of my journey to get me to where I am today.”
Charlton’s technical director, Andy Scott, expressed satisfaction, stating, “We’re delighted to tie Daniel down to a long-term contract because we want to keep our best young players at the football club.” Scott also praised Kanu’s performance, noting his resilience when not in the starting lineup and his significant contributions during a challenging stretch of games. “Daniel has made a huge impression this season – he’s shown he’s got the quality and he’s shown he can score goals,” added Scott.
