On Sunday night, Jauan Jennings, a former wide receiver for the Tennessee Vols, achieved a milestone by becoming the fourth ex-Vol to find the end zone in a Super Bowl. Jennings, who had previously thrown a touchdown pass in the San Francisco 49ers’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, secured a touchdown reception from Brock Purdy during the second half of Super Bowl LVIII.
This accomplishment places Jennings in the company of Alvin Harper, Jamal Lewis, and Malik Jackson as the exclusive group of former Tennessee players who have scored a touchdown in a Super Bowl. Notably, Harper caught a touchdown pass from Troy Aikman for the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXVII, Lewis rushed for a touchdown for the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XXXV, and Jackson, who holds the distinction of the only defensive touchdown in a Super Bowl by a former Vol, returned a fumble for a score for the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50. It’s worth noting that Peyton Manning, despite his numerous touchdown passes, doesn’t fall into this category as touchdown passes do not count as personally scoring a touchdown.
