Breaking news: In light of coaching changes, a recruit from the 2024 class decides to leave Michigan football.

Amidst the changes following Jim Harbaugh’s departure to the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers, Michigan football has largely succeeded in maintaining its roster intact. While the promotion of former offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore to head coach provided a sense of continuity, the departure of all defensive coaches raised concerns.

Fortunately, the Wolverines haven’t seen any notable scholarship players depart, but one signed recruit, Jaden Smith from North Carolina, decided not to wait and explore the team’s new direction. Smith, a four-star EDGE prospect, expressed his intention to void his national letter of intent and pursue opportunities elsewhere. He recently announced his successful release from the NLI.

Smith, ranked 284th overall by the 247Sports Composite, possesses the potential to excel as an outside linebacker or evolve into a traditional defensive end given his size and athleticism. While Michigan currently lacks a defensive line coach, there are rumors of Greg Scruggs from Wisconsin joining the staff, a connection to Sherrone Moore’s time at Louisville.
