Nathan Jones expressed satisfaction with the attacking prowess displayed by his team on Saturday, securing a 3-3 draw against Bolton Wanderers, a side with the best home record in the league.
Describing the result as a “fantastic point,” he emphasized the team’s relentless approach and their unfortunate missed opportunity to secure a win. Jones praised the positive performance in terms of effort and attacking threat.
Reflecting on the team’s recent performances, the new Charlton Athletic boss highlighted a level of consistency in the last two matches, stating, “We were dominant in midweek at home, and you expect that. I want us to do that. But then to back it up with the level of performance that we did today, with the young team, was fantastic. We’re showing that we can be consistent, because that’s two unbeaten now.”
Jones emphasized the next step is turning draws into victories, stating, “We’re showing that we’re not losing games. Now we have to win a game.”
He specifically commended the performances of academy prospects Daniel Kanu and Karoy Anderson, both 18 and 19 years old, respectively, stating they were “truly outstanding” and highlighting the club’s history of producing young talents.
Despite a shaky start for debutant Thierry Small, Jones was pleased with the wing-back’s recovery and debut that lasted 90 minutes, describing it as a dream for him to score a goal.
Looking ahead to the next match against Portsmouth, Jones hopes his team can build on the recent solid displays, aiming to increase performance levels and accumulate enough points to improve their league position.
