Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel swiftly addressed both staff openings in a single afternoon. After the departure of running backs coach Jerry Mack to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Heupel appointed Cincinnati running backs coach De’Rail Sims to the same role. Additionally, he secured Washington co-defensive coordinator William Hinge to serve as Tennessee’s linebackers coach, according to VolQuest’s Austin Price.

Hinge, who recently held the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach positions at Washington, played a pivotal role in the team’s success, winning the Pac-12 Championship and reaching the national championship in the past two seasons. Before his time with the Huskies, Hinge held similar positions at Fresno State in 2022 and spent seven years at the University of Indiana in various defensive roles.

Under Hinge’s guidance, Washington’s defense improved significantly, ranking No. 25 in the country in 2022. Now, he faces the challenge of coaching in the SEC and working with high-caliber SEC-level athletes. With these recent appointments, Tennessee has successfully filled both coaching vacancies and finalized its coaching staff.
