A highly rated Boston Celtics player is reportedly set to sign with the Washington Wizards.

As per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Washington Wizards are set to sign Justin Champagnie. Last season, Champagnie played in five regular-season games split between the Boston Celtics (2) and Toronto Raptors (3), averaging 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds per game with a shooting percentage of 33.3%.

The 22-year-old also made appearances in four NBA playoff games with the Boston Celtics.

Charania reported on Tuesday afternoon that Champagnie would be joining the Washington Wizards on a ten-day contract from the NBA G League, where he has been performing well. His agent, Daniel Hazan of Hazan Sports Management, shared the news with Charania, stating, “The Washington Wizards are signing forward Justin Champagnie to a 10-day contract out of NBA G League. Champagnie has played parts of two NBA seasons and is averaging 22.3 PPG/8.9 RPG for Sioux Falls.”

Champagnie has accumulated career averages of 2.2 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in 41 regular-season NBA appearances, shooting at 43.9% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range. In the G League this year, he has showcased impressive stats with averages of 23.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting at 49.5% from the field.

As for the struggling Wizards, currently holding the 14th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 9-45 record in 54 games, they will hope Champagnie’s addition can contribute positively. The team, currently on an eight-game losing streak, will resume play on Thursday against the Denver Nuggets in Colorado after the All-Star break.
