Plymouth Argyle’s goalkeeper, Michael Cooper, has completed his return to full training following a two-month absence due to a knee injury. The 24-year-old had suffered a medial cruciate ligament injury in his left knee during a December training session. This setback came after Cooper had recovered from a previous ligament injury in his other knee, which had kept him out for nine months.
Despite agreeing to a contract extension until 2025 last March, Cooper has had limited appearances this season and is yet to play under the management of Ian Foster, the new Argyle manager. Foster highlighted the challenge of providing Cooper with the necessary training sessions amid the busy schedule of games.
Cooper, an academy graduate with over 150 games for Plymouth, has been training intensively with the goalkeeping department to regain fitness and sharpness. Foster explained the difficulty in arranging a suitable friendly match to offer Cooper match experience, considering the need for 10 additional players to participate and the risk of facing an opponent that might not provide a competitive challenge.
While not ruling out the possibility of a friendly, Foster emphasized the challenges involved and highlighted the significant focus on enhancing Cooper’s fitness through intensive training sessions.
