According to Jonathan Jones from CBS Sports, the Baltimore Ravens are poised to bring on board Dennis Johnson, the former defensive line coach at Baylor, to fill the same position. This move comes in the wake of Anthony Weaver, who recently became the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, leaving the Ravens.
Johnson, 35, is set to make his NFL coaching debut next season after spending the past four years at Baylor. During his tenure, Baylor achieved success, culminating in a victorious run to the Sugar Bowl in the 2021 season. In that impressive 12-win season, Baylor’s rushing defense ranked second in the Big 12 for rushing defense and fourth in both total and scoring defense. Johnson’s coaching journey includes previous stops at Kentucky, Northwestern State, and his alma mater LSU, where he contributed to the team’s undefeated regular season in 2011.
Notably, one of Johnson’s protégés at Baylor, Siaki Ika, received All-American honors and was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the most recent draft (98th overall). Ika’s draft pick marked the first time a Baylor defensive lineman had been chosen in the first three rounds since Phil Taylor in 2011, who was also picked by the Browns.
