The New England Patriots find themselves in a phase of uncertainty regarding the quarterback position during this offseason.
Expressing the current scenario, offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt stated, “Right now, everything is on the table,” in terms of Mac Jones potentially being the 2024 starter or exploring other possibilities, as reported by Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston. Van Pelt highlighted that the coaching staff is presently in an evaluation phase concerning the entire roster.
This level of uncertainty is not unexpected during the early stages of the offseason. With a new head coach, Jerod Mayo, taking charge, the NFL Scouting Combine yet to commence, over two months remaining until the NFL draft, and free agency beginning on March 13, the Patriots, like all other teams, have ample time to assess their options and make informed decisions.
Despite the ongoing evaluation, there has been widespread speculation about Jones’ future. According to Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, there have been reports earlier this month suggesting that the quarterback is a potential trade candidate in the coming weeks and is likely to play elsewhere in the 2024 season.
