Brooks Wright talks about his decision to join Tennessee baseball.

Brooks Wright, who signed with Tennessee baseball on February 7, shared insights into his decision during the inaugural East Tennessee Baseball Coaches Media Day held at Dick’s House of Sport in Knoxville.

Expressing his excitement, Wright mentioned that committing to play for the Vols was a long-held dream, dating back to his eighth-grade year in 2020. Despite Tennessee’s varying levels of success in the past, Wright’s desire to play close to home fueled his commitment.

Reflecting on the choice, he emphasized, “I wanted to play there when I was a kid, and I remember going there, and I remember going to games over there when they weren’t very good. They really weren’t very good until coach (Tony Vitello) got there, and he got there in 2018.”

Hailing from Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, Wright showcased his versatility by playing catcher, first base, and pitcher. In his junior year in 2023, he delivered an impressive performance with a .415 batting average, six home runs, 26 RBIs, 10 doubles, and 34 walks. Notably, he also demonstrated his defensive prowess by earning the District 4-4A Defensive Player of the Year title.

As he enters his senior campaign at Bearden in 2024, Brooks Wright remains a key player with a three-season starting record, poised to contribute significantly to the team.
