New England Patriots defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington is not only receiving a new title for the upcoming season but is also set to assume additional responsibilities on the sidelines. In an announcement on Wednesday, the first-time coordinator disclosed that he will take on the role of the team’s primary defensive play-caller, a responsibility he has not previously shouldered in his professional coaching career.
Covington expressed his intention to handle play-calling duties, stating during a press conference at Gillette Stadium, “I do plan on calling plays. This is something where I’ve been preparing. This is something I wanted to do. So, you already take the necessary steps to prepare yourself for when you get the opportunity to be ready.”
