Despite Lamar Jackson’s outstanding performance, securing another MVP season for the Baltimore Ravens, the dual-threat quarterback is still in need of support. One potential solution could be the Ravens signing former NFL rushing champion Josh Jacobs from the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.

Pro Football Network’s Dallas Robinson suggests that Jacobs, who led the league in rushing in 2022, could serve as a “long-term option” for the Ravens backfield, which might face significant changes this offseason. Notably, players like Gus Edwards, J.K. Dobbins, Melvin Gordon, and Dalvin Cook are slated to become free agents in March, with rookie standout Keaton Mitchell recovering from a torn ACL.

With a considerable amount of rushing talent possibly moving elsewhere next season, the Ravens, while still relying on Jackson’s mobility, could benefit from adding Jacobs as an asset, despite his less impressive performance in 2023.

Robinson points out that Baltimore’s offensive line is superior to the one Jacobs played behind in Las Vegas last season. Additionally, Jacobs’ skills in pass-catching could be advantageous for the Ravens if Jackson reduces his scrambling tendencies with age.

The acquisition of Jacobs would necessitate strategic salary cap management by Ravens’ general manager Eric DeCosta. However, the move could prove worthwhile, providing Jackson with a reliable RB1 and potentially diminishing Baltimore’s dependence on a rushing committee.
