Richard Sherman, former NFL star and cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence, as reported by the Washington State Patrol.

According to Trooper Jordan Hazzard-Thomas in a probable cause statement, during the traffic stop, Sherman was spoken to, and the trooper noticed “the odor of intoxicants,” along with Sherman’s eyes appearing “bloodshot and watery.”

Efforts to seek comment on Sherman’s arrest were made by sending emails to a representative listed on his social media sites and to an attorney who has previously represented him. The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office stated that Sherman was anticipated to have a court hearing on Monday.

Sherman, a three-time All-Pro cornerback, had an illustrious 11-year career in the NFL, contributing to the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl victory in the 2013 season. Recognized as one of the top defensive standouts of his era, he earned a spot on the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s All-Decade Team of the 2010s in 2020.

After seven seasons with the Seahawks, Sherman spent three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, followed by stints with Tampa Bay, and he played college football at Stanford University.

In more recent times, Sherman has been involved in football analysis.
