North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye’s position on most draft boards may make it unlikely for the Steelers to make a move, but discussions persist about him being the potential successor to Big Ben. While he might not reach the same level of success, comparisons to the future Hall of Famer have been a recurring theme throughout the draft evaluation process.

In a recent episode of his podcast, Hanratty’s Huddle, two-time Super Bowl champion Terry Hanratty shared insights from an NFL general manager who sees Maye as the next Roethlisberger. According to Hanratty, the GM suggested that despite the widespread focus on Caleb Williams from Southern Cal, Maye could surprise by being selected ahead of him. The comparison to Roethlisberger is grounded in Maye’s combination of size, agility, a powerful arm, and a resilient demeanor.

Although Maye is projected to be the second or third quarterback chosen in the NFL Draft, which might be beyond the Steelers’ reach, there’s speculation that his physical attributes could generate interest from teams willing to make a move, potentially orchestrating a trade with the Chicago Bears to secure him earlier than expected.
