“Pittsburgh Steelers Face Decision on Cornerback Levi Wallace in Upcoming Offseason”
The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves at a crossroads this offseason regarding cornerback Levi Wallace, who is set to become a free agent. While Wallace may be seeking new opportunities, there is a possibility that the Steelers could prioritize re-signing him.
Mark Kaboly of The Athletic identifies Wallace as the top defensive free agent for the Steelers. Despite starting nine games and participating in all 16 last season, accounting for 69 percent of the defensive snaps, Wallace may not be at the forefront of the team’s free-agent priorities. The emergence of Joey Porter Jr. as the primary cornerback provides the Steelers with the flexibility to explore options for the No. 2 spot.
While the Steelers value having Wallace back, they may explore other possibilities in free agency, particularly targeting a younger player with more potential. Although they were linked to free-agent cornerback Jaylon Johnson during the trade deadline, a deal did not materialize, likely due to the hefty price tag. Wallace’s availability in the market may not command high demand, allowing the Steelers to consider alternatives.
In the previous season, Wallace demonstrated his skills with 38 tackles, 11 passes defensed, and two interceptions. While losing Wallace wouldn’t be catastrophic, it would necessitate the Steelers to either sign a replacement or draft a player alongside Joey Porter Jr. Although there is potential to find a better option than Wallace through these avenues, the associated risks need careful consideration before making a decision.
