Alabama Crimson Tide Welcomes Maurice Linguist and Colin Hitschler to Coaching Staff Under New Head Coach Kalen DeBoer..
New Alabama Crimson Tide head football coach Kalen DeBoer revealed on Monday that defensive assistants Maurice Linguist and Colin Hitschler have officially become part of the coaching staff.
Expressing his enthusiasm, DeBoer stated in a press release, “We are excited to have Maurice and Colin join our staff at Alabama. Maurice brings both head coaching experience and an established track record of success coaching defensive backs. Colin boasts a wealth of knowledge and experience, is recognized for developing players’ skill sets, and is an excellent tactician. They are both proven recruiters and outstanding teachers.”
Linguist, who served as the head coach at Buffalo for three years, achieving a 14-23 record and winning the 2022 Camelia Bowl in his sole postseason appearance, will now take on a similar role on DeBoer’s staff. Before his tenure at Buffalo, the 39-year-old coach worked as the defensive backs coach for various teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, Texas A&M, Minnesota, and Mississippi State. Linguist’s football journey extends back to his playing days as a safety at Baylor.
Hitschler, aged 37, comes to Alabama with a background from Wisconsin, where he spent the last season under Luke Fickell. Previously, he worked with Fickell at Cincinnati from 2018 to 2022, progressing from a defensive analyst to co-defensive coordinator. Alabama had encountered Hitschler’s defense in the 2021 College Football Playoff, with the Bearcats ranking fifth nationally in scoring defense (16.5) and tenth in total defense (318.4 yards per game) that season.
