Ohio State football coach Ryan Day has confirmed that he will be relinquishing offensive playcalling duties for the 2024 season. However, the fate of his chosen successor, Bill O’Brien, is yet to be determined and will be clarified in the coming days.
In the previous month, Day appointed O’Brien as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator as part of a strategy to entrust playcalling responsibilities to the former Penn State and Houston Texans coach. Day, who has been actively involved in playcalling for the Buckeyes since joining the coaching staff in 2017, is now set to transition away from that role.
Notably, O’Brien is currently a leading contender for the head-coaching position at Boston College. He participated in an interview for the role alongside four other candidates in Atlanta on Tuesday, according to a source informed ESPN’s Andrea Adelson. On Wednesday, Day stated that there is “no update” regarding O’Brien’s status with Boston College but confirmed that O’Brien was present and actively working for Ohio State within the program.
