The New England Patriots have officially announced the release of cornerback J.C. Jackson. Jackson, 28, was re-acquired by the Patriots through a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers on October 4, 2023.
Originally joining the Patriots as a rookie free agent from Maryland, Jackson spent his initial four NFL seasons with New England (2018-21). In 2022, he signed with the L.A. Chargers as an unrestricted free agent. Notably, Jackson accumulated 25 interceptions in his first four NFL seasons, tying him with Lester Hayes and Everson Walls for the most interceptions by a player in their initial four seasons since 1970. He played a crucial role in New England’s Super Bowl victory in 2018 and earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2021 after finishing second in the NFL with 8 interceptions. Across 77 regular-season games with 52 starts, Jackson has recorded 201 total tackles, 26 interceptions, 64 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble, and 3 fumble recoveries.
During the 2023 season, Jackson commenced the first two games with the Chargers and then participated in eight games with six starts for the Patriots. His contributions included 25 total tackles and 6 passes defensed while with the Patriots.
