Former North Carolina Tar Heels standout quarterback, Drake Maye, has opted not to participate in the throwing drills at this week’s NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Instead, he plans to showcase his skills during the school’s pro day in the later stages of the pre-draft process. Despite abstaining from throwing, Maye is actively engaging in the NFL Draft process in Indianapolis, participating in interviews and potential cognitive tests.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports that Maye is scheduled for formal interviews with an impressive total of 10 teams during the combine. The significant attention underscores the high regard in which Maye is held as the potential second quarterback prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft. Various teams, including the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints, and Seattle Seahawks, are set to meet with Maye.

A breakdown of the teams and their respective first-round selections is as follows:
– Chicago Bears (#1, #9)
– Washington Commanders (#2)
– New England Patriots (#3)
– New York Giants (#6)
– Atlanta Falcons (#8)
– New York Jets (#10)
– Minnesota Vikings (#11)
– Las Vegas Raiders (#13)
– New Orleans Saints (#14)
– Seattle Seahawks (#16)

The Chicago Bears, holding the first overall pick, are expected to select USC’s Caleb Williams. However, a potential trade could alter their plans. Washington Commanders, with the second pick, are well-positioned to secure Maye, especially if new general manager Adam Peters opts for a quarterback. The New England Patriots, at number three, are receiving trade-up offers but are likely to choose a quarterback to replace Mac Jones.

Notably, these three teams have the opportunity to acquire Maye without making any moves before draft night. Maye’s impressive 2023 statistics include a 63.3% completion rate, 3,608 passing yards, 449 rushing yards, 33 total touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.

Other teams set to meet with Maye also have quarterback needs, with the Atlanta Falcons and Las Vegas Raiders being particularly obvious candidates, though the former may explore the veteran trade route.
