The Bulldogs are reportedly entangled in a legal dispute with a player who left the club’s training and took a hiatus due to mental health concerns last year. According to The Daily Telegraph, negotiations between the club and the player have broken down, leading to a legal battle.
The talented player, who remains part of the Bulldogs’ top 30, stepped back after being instructed to engage in a wrestling match with teammates as a consequence for tardiness at training. The individual, whose identity is protected due to mental health reasons, has not participated in Bulldogs’ training sessions since the incident late last season.
Ongoing monitoring of the situation is being conducted by the RLPA and the NRL welfare team. Canterbury’s CEO, Aaron Warburton, declined to comment on the matter when questioned by the Telegraph, citing ongoing legal proceedings. Warburton also refrained from confirming whether the club was still compensating the player.
The coaching methods of Coach Cameron Ciraldo came under scrutiny last year when former captain Raymond Faitala-Mariner raised concerns on behalf of multiple discontented players.
