There’s a recent development in the Kendrick Bourne impending free agency case.
According to a report by Andrew Callahan from the Boston Herald on Monday, the New England Patriots have presented Bourne with a contract offer. However, specific terms and details of the offer have not been disclosed.
This news follows a report by MassLive’s Mark Daniels, Chris Mason, and Karen Guregian, stating that there is a disagreement between Bourne and the Patriots regarding a potential agreement. MassLive suggested that it’s “unlikely” the Patriots will be able to re-sign Bourne before the commencement of free agency.
Officially, free agency is set to begin on March 13, preceded by the legal tampering period starting on March 11.
Both the Boston Herald and MassLive anticipate that Bourne will attract interest from various teams across the league. The Herald even pointed out the possibility of the Patriots losing Bourne to a division rival, highlighting the New York Jets’ previous interest in Bourne over the past 18 months. Additionally, the Buffalo Bills had reportedly shown interest in Bourne before he signed with the Patriots in 2021. It’s worth noting that Bourne has connections with members of the Miami Dolphins coaching staff, including head coach Mike McDaniel.
Spotrac’s projection places Bourne’s market value at three years, $14.6 million. Two NFL executives, as mentioned by the Herald, believe Bourne could command an annual salary in the ballpark of $7 million.
Despite the uncertainties surrounding the contract negotiations, Bourne has expressed a preference to return to New England. MassLive’s report indicates that he is one of the impending free agents the Patriots are keen on retaining.
