Mitch Trubisky, the former quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is set to rejoin the Buffalo Bills, as reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. This agreement marks his return to the team he previously played for.
During the offseason, the Steelers released Trubisky, leading to a $3 million reduction in their salary cap and enabling the seasoned quarterback to enter the free-agent market ahead of schedule. Following his release, he had the freedom to sign with a new team at any point.
Trubisky’s tenure in Pittsburgh did not unfold as expected. Despite initially signing to be the team’s starting quarterback, he was benched after just four games in favor of then-rookie Kenny Pickett. While filling in as the starter during injuries, Trubisky faced challenges, going 0-2 in the past season and eventually being replaced by third-stringer Mason Rudolph. His time with the Steelers concluded with eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Nonetheless, Trubisky previously served as a valuable backup for the Buffalo Bills, and it is anticipated that he will play a similar role this time around. As a former first-round pick, he is expected to provide support to Josh Allen and seamlessly integrate into the team’s roster during his second stint with the Bills.
