Tee Higgins, a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, has spent his entire four-year NFL tenure with the team. Recently, the Bengals utilized the franchise tag on him, indicating he’ll either remain with the team for the 2024 season or potentially be traded.
However, Higgins himself seems keen on departing Cincinnati. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he has formally requested a trade due to the lack of discussions regarding a contract extension since March 2023.
Despite Higgins’ desire to be traded, there’s no guarantee it will happen, as the Bengals are unlikely to let him go without a substantial return. NFL insider Jordan Schultz suggested that Cincinnati would probably require a second-round draft pick, possibly even a third-rounder, to part ways with Higgins. Therefore, a trade doesn’t seem imminent.
Schultz predicts that Higgins will likely play under the franchise tag, indicating that a trade might not materialize.
Considering Higgins’ discontent and the Bengals’ reasonable asking price, it might make sense for the team to trade him. However, they appear steadfast in their valuation and should not lower their demands.
Early in his career, Higgins displayed significant promise, consistently recording impressive receiving yards and touchdowns. Despite being limited to 12 games due to injury last year, he still managed to put up respectable numbers.
