Quinten Johnson, from Michigan football, is making a comeback after having previously announced his intention to enter the NFL draft.

The Michigan football secondary seems to have received a boost in strength for the upcoming season.

Quinten Johnson, a defensive back who had previously announced his intention to enter the NFL draft, has instead decided to stay in Ann Arbor for a sixth season of eligibility, as confirmed by a program spokesperson to the Free Press on Tuesday morning.

Johnson later announced his return via Instagram on Tuesday afternoon.

On Monday night, the official Twitter account for the Randy Wise Automotive Team posted a social media update featuring Johnson posing in front of a Mercedes-Benz, adorned with his No. 28 and the words “Championship Culture.”

The post welcomed Johnson as the official defensive back of the Wise Team.

As a result of his decision, Johnson will no longer participate in the program’s pro day on March 22 in Ann Arbor. Although Michigan set an NFL combine-record with 18 invitees at the recent event in Indianapolis, Johnson was not among them.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound graduate student will assume the role previously held by Michael Barrett as the team’s elder statesman, turning 24 in June. He returns after a season primarily spent as a backup, appearing in all 15 games of U-M’s national championship-winning season and tallying 22 tackles, five pass breakups, an interception, and a forced fumble.

Throughout his career, Johnson has played in 41 games, accumulating over 1,000 career snaps across special teams and defense. Notably, he made a significant impact with a big hit on Emeka Egbuka in last year’s matchup against Ohio State and forced a Jalen Milroe fumble during the Rose Bowl against Alabama.

Despite returning starters Rod Moore and Makari Paige opting to come back for senior seasons, making the safety room one of the team’s strongest, rising star Keon Sabb’s decision to transfer to Alabama did not deter Johnson from returning.
