Reading FC icon Dave Kitson is making a return from retirement to join Caversham United in the Reading & District Sunday League, creating a headline of remarkable significance in recent weeks. Caversham United, known as the Goats, boast two men’s teams, one women’s team, and a substantial Twitter following, along with a commendable record in charitable fundraising.

The question arises: Why is Dave Kitson, revered for his remarkable achievements at Reading FC, including scoring the club’s inaugural Premier League goal and making close to 150 appearances for the Royals, making this unexpected comeback?

It appears that Kitson’s involvement with the DKA Academy, which has been conducting training sessions for Caversham United, has played a pivotal role. Paul Gutteridge, the club’s Chief Goat, has evidently utilized this opportunity to engage in discussions with the seasoned striker, ultimately persuading him to lace up his boots once again.
