“Buffalo Bills Enhancing Defensive Front; Host Free Agent Defensive Lineman Austin Johnson for Visit”
The Buffalo Bills are actively bolstering their defensive front and recently welcomed free agent defensive lineman Austin Johnson for a visit.
As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Johnson was in Buffalo on Wednesday to explore potential opportunities with the team.
Aged 29, Johnson spent the previous two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers. He notably started all 17 games for the club in 2023, tallying 46 total tackles alongside two tackles for loss, one QB hit, two passes defensed, and a forced fumble. However, his performance received a rather lackluster overall grade of 45.7 from Pro Football Focus last season.
Originally drafted in the second round by the Tennessee Titans in the 2016 NFL draft, Johnson spent four seasons with them before moving on to the New York Giants for two seasons. He then joined the Chargers for the past two years.
Throughout his eight-year NFL career, Johnson has started 55 out of 116 games. Notably versatile, he has experience playing both on the interior and on the edge. Given his imposing build standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing over 300 pounds, he appears to be a potential fit as a tackle if he were to join the Bills.
