“New York Rangers’ Chris Drury Announces Agreement with Forward Jaroslav Chmelar”
Today, Chris Drury, President and General Manager of the New York Rangers, announced that the team has reached an agreement with forward Jaroslav Chmelar on a three-year entry-level contract.
Chmelar, aged 20, spent two seasons at Providence College, where he amassed 12 goals and 16 assists, totaling 28 points in 59 games. During the most recent season, he contributed five goals and 10 assists, accumulating 15 points in 26 games, making him one of six players on the team with double-digit assists. In his first year, he achieved seven goals and six assists, tallying 13 points in 33 games.
Before his time at Providence, the Czechia-born player played for Jokerit U20 in Finland during the 2021-22 season, recording nine goals and nine assists in 39 games. He also participated in 15 games with the Jokerit U18 squad during the 2020-21 season.
On the international stage, standing at 6-4 and weighing 198 pounds, Chmelar represented Czechia in the 2022 and 2023 World Junior Championships, securing a silver medal in 2023. Additionally, he competed for Czechia in the 2021 U18 World Championships.
Chmelar was drafted by the Rangers in the fifth round, 144th overall, in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
