Warriors standout Chris Paul playfully taunts ‘TikToker’ Tony Brothers following a surprising ejection against the Pacers.
Chris Paul has had his fair share of run-ins with referees, hasn’t he? We’re all familiar with the Golden State Warriors point guard’s ongoing feud with Scott Foster. Now, it appears Paul has another adversary in veteran referee Tony Brothers. Paul was ejected from the game by Brothers after receiving two technical fouls during the loss against the Indiana Pacers.
Naturally, fans were curious about the reason behind Paul’s unexpected ejection. During the Warriors’ press conference, Paul took a humorous approach to explain the incident. The former All-Star point guard jokingly mentioned calling Brothers a TikToker as the reason for his ejection.
Paul shared during the post-game conference, “Old Tony. He was talking to me, I talked back. I called him a TikToker, and I got a tech. It was the first one. I just said, ‘TikToker,’ and he gave me a tech. The second one, I just said that’s too much power. He gave me another tech.”
Apparently, Paul wasn’t finished teasing Tony Brothers. After the game, the Warriors point guard took to Instagram to poke fun at the veteran referee. Paul posted a TikTok clip to his IG stories featuring Brothers.
The clip Paul shared is from a Tony Brothers podcast appearance, where the veteran referee appears to express his disinterest in basketball but enjoys the role of being the “judge” and “jury” during games. While the clip may be taken out of context, it sheds light on why Paul might harbor some animosity towards Brothers.
Transitioning to his journey with the Warriors, it was quite unexpected for Chris Paul to join the team during the offseason. After a few moderate seasons as the starting point guard for the Phoenix Suns, Paul willingly accepted a bench role with Golden State. His intention was clear: Paul desires a championship, and he’s willing to adjust his role to pursue that goal.
However, the road to the title hasn’t been without its challenges. Despite Paul performing well in his new role, averaging nearly ten points per game along with his usual assists, the Warriors have faced difficulties this season. They are precariously close to slipping out of contention for the Play-In tournament.
Looking ahead, the Warriors need to focus on finishing the season strongly. The Houston Rockets are gradually climbing up the standings, trailing Golden State by just two games. With recent struggles, the Warriors find themselves on the brink. To turn things around, they must start winning the crucial games ahead.
