Philadelphia Eagles Sign Will Grier to One-Year Deal, Adding Competition for Backup Quarterback Position…
The Philadelphia Eagles are introducing some changes to their quarterback lineup by adding competition for the No. 3 quarterback position. Philadelphia has inked a one-year deal with Will Grier (as reported by ESPN), who will vie with Tanner McKee for the backup slot on the roster.
Grier shares a connection with the Eagles’ new offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore. He spent the 2022 preseason with the Dallas Cowboys when Moore held the position of offensive coordinator. Additionally, Grier was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers last December following Justin Herbert’s season-ending injury, with Moore serving as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator at the time.
While Tanner McKee, a sixth-round pick out of Stanford last year, is currently the frontrunner for the No. 3 quarterback role, Will Grier’s arrival adds another layer of competition. McKee showcased his abilities during the preseason, amassing 453 passing yards and a touchdown without any interceptions, displaying confidence and mastery of the offensive system. It’s worth noting that McKee’s performances came under the guidance of former Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, who has since moved to Washington.
