Cameron Sutton, a former cornerback for the Detroit Lions, was present at the team’s facility when authorities in Florida made public a warrant for his arrest.
According to team president Rod Wood, Lions officials had a direct conversation with Sutton upon learning about the warrant because he was present for a workout session at their facility. Wood mentioned that representatives from the team encouraged the 29-year-old to start looking for legal representation.
On March 20, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Sutton was being sought for aggravated battery involving domestic violence. The Lions made the decision to release him the subsequent day.
Phil Martello, a representative for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, informed ESPN’s Eric Woodyard that the warrant had been issued on March 7, and despite efforts, authorities had been unable to locate Sutton during the intervening period.
