Five Tennessee basketball players are set to depart ahead of the next season due to various reasons such as entering the NBA Draft, graduating, or transferring out.
Despite the team’s impressive journey to the NCAA Tournament regional final this season, culminating in an Elite Eight run, they will face significant losses from their roster.
One notable departure is Dalton Knecht, who is graduating and pursuing the NBA Draft after earning SEC Player of the Year honors and being a finalist for the Wooden Award. Santiago Vescovi, a graduating senior, has been a consistent presence in the team for five seasons, showcasing his basketball IQ and versatility. Additionally, super seniors Josiah-Jordan James and Colin Coyne will bid farewell to the team, with James recognized for his leadership qualities both on and off the court.
The latest departure is Freddie Dilione V, a member of the 2022 recruiting class, who is entering the transfer portal. While his impact at Tennessee may have been minimal, his potential remains evident, and he seeks opportunities elsewhere to further his career.
Frustrations regarding playing time contributed to Dilione’s decision, with unexpected returns and emergence of key players altering the team dynamics. Tennessee has until the end of April to address these departures and reinforce their roster through the transfer portal before the May 1 deadline.
