The Sooners secure a commitment from three-star safety Marcus Wimberly.
The Oklahoma Sooners secured their 11th commitment for the 2025 recruiting class when three-star safety Marcus Wimberly announced his decision to join the Crimson & Cream on Saturday afternoon.
Wimberly, hailing from Arkansas, attended Oklahoma’s “Heisman Hangout” weekend, which attracted numerous recruits from the 2025 and 2026 classes. The success of this recruiting event is evident in Wimberly’s commitment.
Ranked No. 624 overall in the 2025 recruiting class by the 247Sports composite, Wimberly is recognized as one of the top 50 safeties nationwide (No. 47) and is among the top five players in Arkansas.
Wimberly brings a combination of athleticism and instinctive play to the field, making him a valuable addition to Oklahoma’s defense.
In an interview with OUInsider at Rivals, Wimberly emphasized the importance of culture in his decision-making process, seeking an environment where he can grow not only as a football player but also as a person.
Under the leadership of Venables and his staff, Oklahoma has prioritized building a strong culture and supporting players beyond their football careers, a factor that resonated with Wimberly and his family.
Wimberly becomes the fourth defensive prospect and the first defensive back to commit to the Sooners for the 2025 class. He opted for Oklahoma over offers from Michigan, Memphis, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Wisconsin.
