LSU’s guard Carlos Stewart has joined the NCAA transfer portal.

After encountering a season plagued by injuries at LSU, experienced guard Jalen Cook has decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Stewart joined LSU ahead of the 2023-24 season, transitioning from Santa Clara in the WCC, where he demonstrated his scoring prowess. However, during his single year at LSU, Stewart saw action in only 13 games, averaging 4.7 points per game.

Hailing from Baton Rouge, Stewart endured a lower-body injury that sidelined him for nearly the entire conference season, with his last appearance on the court occurring against Texas A&M on Jan. 6. In the games he participated in, Stewart started nine times, averaging 19.5 minutes per game. He shot 32.8 percent from the field, contributing one assist and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Stewart’s arrival at LSU was anticipated, given his standing as the No. 26 player in the transfer portal following a successful sophomore season at Santa Clara, where he averaged 15.2 points on 44.1 percent shooting from the field and 40.3 percent from beyond the arc. Regrettably, his efficiency didn’t carry over to LSU before his season was curtailed.

Standing at 6-foot-1 with one remaining year, unless a medical redshirt is pursued, Stewart will seek another opportunity to showcase his scoring ability.

Regarding LSU’s involvement with the transfer portal, it opened on March 18, 2024, following Selection Sunday, and will remain accessible for 45 days thereafter. However, many coaches expressed frustration over the timing, as it coincided with postseason tournaments, demanding roster evaluations alongside preparations for crucial games.

At LSU, two players, Mwani Wilkinson and Carlos Stewart, have entered the transfer portal, while Jalen Cook has declared for the NBA Draft. Additionally, the team is bidding farewell to seniors Will Baker, Trae Hannibal, Jordan Wright, and Hunter Dean, presenting Coach McMahon with the task of filling out the roster for the upcoming season.

Thus far, LSU has secured Cam Carter, a transfer guard from Kansas State, and anticipates the arrival of an impressive trio of freshmen in the summer.
