Reading FC player nominated for EFL accolade after scoring numerous goals.

In the recent nomination for the EFL Player of the Month for March, Sam Smith stands out due to his significant contribution in helping his team steer clear of relegation peril, primarily through a prolific scoring spree.

Originally progressing within the ranks of the Royals, Smith struggled to secure a spot in the main squad. However, he showcased his talent during two successful seasons with Cambridge United before making a triumphant return to his former club on a long-term contract during the summer.

Although sidelined with an injury at the start of the season, Smith has since demonstrated his prowess by scoring 12 goals in 31 League One appearances. This has been crucial in the remarkable turnaround orchestrated by Ruben Selles’ team, who overcame a 10-point deficit in November and now find themselves comfortably positioned, nine points clear of the relegation zone with just three matches remaining.

Smith’s remarkable form was evident throughout March, where he found the net in four consecutive league matches, contributing significantly to Reading’s three victories despite encountering two losses during the same period.

In the latest game against Bristol Rovers, Smith once again proved his worth by scoring the opening goal in Reading’s 2-0 victory at the Memorial Stadium.

Other contenders for the EFL Player of the Month award alongside Smith include Ebou Adams of Derby County, Alfie May of Charlton Athletic, and Joe Taylor of Lincoln City.
