A UNC basketball guard writes a farewell letter to Tar Heels.

UNC’s basketball program has now witnessed the departure of two players into this year’s transfer portal.

Head coach Hubert Davis significantly increased Seth Trimble’s playing time from his freshman year, with the 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard emerging as a valuable asset off the bench for the Tar Heels during his sophomore season. Trimble’s exceptional athleticism often ignited momentum for the team.

Despite his contributions, Trimble, hailing from Menomonee Falls, Wis., has opted not to continue his collegiate career at Chapel Hill. The 19-year-old, a former four-star recruit ranked No. 38 overall on the 247Sports 2022 Composite, announced his decision to explore other opportunities by entering the transfer portal via a heartfelt letter on his Instagram account.

During his sophomore year, Trimble played in nearly every game for the Tar Heels, who finished the season with an impressive 29-8 record, clinched the top spot in the ACC standings, and reached the Sweet 16 as a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 5.2 points and 2.1 rebounds in 17.1 minutes per game, shooting an impressive 41.9 percent from beyond the arc.

Trimble’s departure marks the second UNC player to enter the transfer portal this offseason, following reserve big man James Okonkwo’s decision last week.

While the Tar Heels, who augmented their roster with several transfer additions for the 2023-24 season, have shown interest in current players in the transfer portal, they have yet to secure any additions for the upcoming season.
