The Red Sox manager did not rule out the possibility of Rafael Devers being absent for an extended period.

After a strong start to the season, the Boston Red Sox faced a setback as they were swept in their recent series against the Baltimore Orioles. Adding to their woes, franchise star Rafael Devers missed his third game of the season due to a shoulder injury.

Manager Rafael Devershinted at the possibility of Devers landing on the injury list, according to reports from The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey. The Red Sox faced a tough challenge against the defending American League East champions, with the Orioles proving to be a formidable opponent.

Without Devers in the lineup, Pablo Reyes is listed as the replacement at third base. However, Reyes lacks the offensive prowess of Devers, who boasts an impressive career batting record. Losing Devers for an extended period would be a significant blow to the Red Sox, as emphasized by Justin Leger of NBC Sports Boston.

Despite downplaying the severity of his injury, Devers’ shoulder issue may lead the Red Sox to exercise caution, especially considering their recent injury woes. Pitcher Nick Pivetta is already on the injured list with an elbow injury, and shortstop Trevor Story is out for the season due to a shoulder injury.

While Devers remains optimistic about his recovery, Cora emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health over rushing his return to the lineup, as reported by Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe.
