“Ex-Tennessee Vols defensive back involved in convoluted transfer portal report”
A former Tennessee Vols defensive back found himself in the midst of a perplexing NCAA transfer portal situation on Tuesday morning. As per 247Sports, Ole Miss safety Key Lawrence was reported to have re-entered the NCAA transfer portal on the first day of the spring window. However, the tweet from 247Sports was later removed because it was revealed that although a player named Key Lawrence from Ole Miss did enter the portal that day, it wasn’t the same individual who had previously played at Tennessee and Oklahoma.
Instead, Sports Illustrated reported that Ole Miss had another Key Lawrence on their roster, who is a walk-on player, and it was this Key Lawrence who was actually entering the transfer portal.
The Key Lawrence who had previously played at Tennessee and Oklahoma had spoken to reporters at Ole Miss the week before, expressing his desire to return to the SEC and to allow his family to witness his final collegiate season. He stated, “I want my family to be able to see me play my last season. I also wanted to get back to the Southeastern Conference.”
