According to Ian Begley of SNY, Brunson is receptive to the idea of a contract extension with the Knicks and isn’t overly concerned about the financial aspect of the agreement. Despite being eligible for a max deal after his outstanding performance during the 2023-24 season, Brunson seems more focused on staying with the organization and contributing to its success.
Having signed a four-year, $104 million contract with the Knicks two years ago, Brunson is set to earn $24.9 million in the 2024-25 season, with a player option for the same amount for the following year.
Given his stellar performance and potential to command a max deal if he becomes a free agent in 2025, the Knicks would be wise to secure him with a new deal before that point. Tim Bontemps believes that while Brunson’s commitment to staying with the Knicks is evident, the team should consider offering him a contract that allows them to maintain flexibility in terms of salary cap space and player acquisitions.
Brunson, aged 27, enjoyed a standout season, averaging career highs of 28.4 points and 6.7 assists while leading the Knicks to the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 50-32 record, marking the team’s first 50-win season since 2012-13.
