Jackson was chosen as the No. 4 pick in the WNBA Draft, following Stanford’s Cameron Brink, selected two picks earlier by the Sparks. Together, they aim to elevate the Sparks’ performance from their ninth-place finish last season.
“I’ll debate anyone who says Rickea isn’t one of the top scorers across all levels in this draft,” Miller asserted. “While defense and rebounding are crucial, the scoring ability and potential synergy between them were key considerations.”
Brink and Jackson mark the Sparks’ first top-four selections since drafting Nneka Ogwumike at No. 1 in 2012, underlining the significance of this decision for Los Angeles.
Sparks scouts closely monitored Tennessee games throughout the season, observing Jackson’s work ethic even when not in the spotlight.
“We spent considerable time in Knoxville, not just watching games but assessing their preparation,” noted Sparks general manager Raegan Pebley. “We observed their practices and gathered insights into their approach to skill development.”
Jackson, coached by Kellie Harper, represents the fourth and final Tennessee pick before Harper’s departure. Her growth as a player spans both Tennessee and Mississippi State, where she spent her initial three seasons.
Furthermore, Jackson boasts international experience, having contributed significantly to Team USA’s silver medal victory in the 2023 AmeriCup.
