Arkansas aims to finalize the recruitment of a previously committed 5-star prospect from Kentucky.
According to Travis Branham of 247sports, Karter Knox, a highly sought-after prospect from Arkansas for the 2024 class, will be visiting both the Razorbacks and John Calipari on Monday. Knox, who is ranked as a composite 5-star recruit and holds the position of the 19th overall player in the nation, initially committed to Kentucky due to Calipari’s reputation for developing NBA talent. However, after Calipari accepted the coaching position at Arkansas, Knox reopened his recruitment. During his time with Overtime Elite, Knox showcased impressive stats, averaging 23 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one steal per game, with shooting percentages of 44% from the field and 34% from three-point range. His main area for improvement lies in his free throw shooting, where he currently shoots 63%.
The potential recruitment of Knox would significantly bolster Arkansas’ roster, especially considering their need to fill all 13 scholarship slots in a single recruiting cycle. This trend also highlights a series of former Kentucky connections potentially transitioning to Arkansas, with Knox potentially joining Zvonimir Ivisic, a former Wildcats center who recently signed with the Razorbacks.
During his introductory press conference, Calipari expressed his discomfort in leaving his Memphis Tigers players when he took the Arkansas job in 2007. However, recent NCAA rule changes have made it easier for athletes to transfer with their committed coaches, alleviating some of the challenges. Calipari humorously remarked on the state of the Arkansas roster, emphasizing the need to assemble a cohesive team moving forward.
