Alabama acquires Graham Nicholson, winner of the Lou Groza Award, via the transfer portal.
Alabama football secured a commitment from transfer portal on Sunday to address a position gap. Kicker Graham Nicholson, previously with Miami of Ohio, revealed he would be joining the Crimson Tide via his Instagram account.
“Let’s get to work,” he stated in the post.
Following the departure of Will Reichard due to graduation after the 2023 season, Alabama faced a significant void as Reichard held the program’s all-time scoring record.
Previously, Alabama had been evaluating candidates such as Conor Talty, Reid Schuback, and Upton Bellanfant for the position. Reed Harradine was also in contention before announcing his own entry into the transfer portal.
Rather than taking the uncertain path, Alabama opted to acquire a proven asset. Nicholson was the recipient of the Lou Groza Award, recognizing the nation’s top kicker, for his performance in 2023.
He became the first player from the Mid-American Conference to win this prestigious award. Nicholson boasted an impressive record, making 26 of 27 field goals for the RedHawks and converting 35 of 36 extra points.
His longest field goal during the previous season was 52 yards. Nicholson earned numerous first-team All-American honors following his exceptional performance in 2023, including recognition from the Associated Press, Spring News, AFCA, and Walter Camp.
