Ex-FSU Football Tight End Jaheim Bell Picked by New England Patriots in NFL Draft

Jaheim Bell, previously of Florida State University, was selected by the New England Patriots in the seventh round as the 231st overall pick. Bell began his collegiate journey at South Carolina before transferring to FSU in 2023. During his time at South Carolina, he showcased versatility as an H-back and hybrid tight end, accumulating 301 rushing yards on 80 carries and 56 receptions for 757 yards, scoring 10 touchdowns over three seasons. In his lone season at FSU, Bell transitioned more into a receiving role, making 39 catches for 501 yards and three touchdowns, occasionally lining up in the backfield and serving as a lead blocker.

Given his smaller stature for a tight end, Bell’s exact role in the NFL remains uncertain. Some scouts view him as a potential fullback, while others recognize his receiving abilities, particularly his top-end speed, and envision him playing more on the perimeter. However, succeeding at the professional level as a 6’2″ tight end presents challenges, requiring improvement in blocking skills regardless of his designated role.
