Tobe Awaka, formerly of the Tennessee Volunteers, has announced his decision to transfer to the Arizona Wildcats.
During his time with the Volunteers, Awaka showcased significant growth over two seasons, becoming an integral part of their lineup, particularly during the NCAA Tournament. Tennessee often relied on Awaka or Jonas Aidoo in matchups against formidable opponents, and they performed admirably as a duo.
Despite their contributions, both Awaka and Aidoo opted to enter the transfer portal recently, signaling a departure from the Volunteers for the upcoming season. Awaka has now chosen Arizona as his new collegiate destination, opting for the Wildcats over several other competing programs.
Prior to his transfer decision, Awaka’s talent was on display last summer when he represented Team USA at the FIBA U19 World Cup. Starting in six out of seven games, he emerged as a standout player, leading the tournament in double-doubles and averaging 11.6 points per game, the second-highest on the team. Many observers saw this experience as a pivotal moment for Awaka, with his confidence and skill level visibly elevated following his impressive performances in Hungary.
