Arkansas guard Samara Spencer has made the decision to join the Lady Vols basketball team through the transfer portal.

Arkansas guard Samara Spencer announced on Sunday her commitment to join the Lady Vols basketball team through the transfer portal. This is a significant acquisition for Tennessee’s coach, Kim Caldwell, as Spencer, who was named the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2022, brings substantial skills to the team. In the previous season, the senior guard boasted impressive averages of 13.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Over her three seasons at Arkansas, Spencer made 149 3-pointers, shooting at a 30.8% success rate.

On social media, Spencer shared, “never personal just business, that’s the way i keep it.”

Standing at 5-foot-7, Spencer was among the top 10 in six statistical categories during the 2022-23 season and holds several records at Arkansas, including minutes played, games started, and games played in a season. During her sophomore year, she ranked seventh in assists and eleventh in points in a single season.

Last season, Spencer started in all 33 games for Arkansas, leading in assists, free throws made, and free throw percentage. She scored double digits in 26 games, including all but one SEC game, and recorded five or more assists in nine games, as well as scoring 20 or more points in six games.

Spencer is the third player to commit to the Lady Vols from the transfer portal since Caldwell took over as coach on April 7. She joins former Syracuse forward Alyssa Latham and former Miami forward Lazaria Spearman. Tennessee currently has three remaining scholarships available.
