Ravens running back Derrick Henry shares his impressions of quarterback Lamar Jackson, describing him as “so dynamic.”
The prospect of teaming up with Lamar Jackson had long been on Derrick Henry’s mind.
Now, Henry doesn’t have to entertain the idea of potentially forming one of the NFL’s most dynamic backfields with Lamar Jackson—it’s become a reality. The star running back, known for his elite performance, finalized a two-year contract worth up to $20 million with the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday.
Reflecting on his introduction at the press conference on Thursday, Henry expressed his previous contemplation about playing alongside Jackson. He acknowledged Jackson’s exceptional talent, regarding him as one of the league’s best players since his entry into the NFL. Henry also conveyed his admiration for the Ravens organization.
Despite being 30 years old, an age often considered a turning point for running backs, Henry has continued to prove his prowess on the field. He amassed 1,538 rushing yards and scored 13 touchdowns in 2022, followed by 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns in the subsequent season, despite facing challenges with the Titans’ offensive line.
Henry’s impressive performance, ranking second only to San Francisco 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey in rushing yards, underscores his enduring capability. With Henry maintaining a high level of play, the Ravens are poised to possess one of the most formidable rushing tandems alongside Jackson. Jackson, a dual-threat quarterback, led all quarterbacks with 821 rushing yards and secured five touchdowns, earning his second MVP title. He also achieved a career-high of 3,678 passing yards, with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions in the 2023 season.
With Jackson’s exceptional running ability and the anticipated improvement in the offensive line compared to Henry’s previous teams, the seasoned running back finds himself with perhaps the strongest support in his eight-year career. Henry aspires to contribute as the missing piece to help Jackson and the Ravens overcome postseason challenges.
Excited about the opportunity to play alongside Jackson, Henry admires his dynamic playmaking ability and aims to complement the existing talent in the Ravens’ offense to achieve greater success than the previous season.
